Marion G. Osgood (1859-1948), a violinist, conductor, and composer, was born into a musical family in Boston. She taught and performed solo violin around the country and composed and published works for violin and songs, including Starlight, Polonaise Caprice, Mazurka Bravura. In 1884, she formed the Marion Osgood Ladies Orchestra, the first of its kind in the US, where she conducted from the first violin chair. The group performed throughout the country until 1911.
